Phil is a husband, father of five, and grandfather of thirteen. He has lived in Cedar City for 30 years and raised his family here. Today, three of his five children are doing the same—each raising their own families in this community they call home.
Phil believes in faith, hard work, and doing what’s right. He founded Schmidt Construction in 1988 and has built roads, sewer and water systems, and helped prepare the ground for many developments across the city. Phil believes in building—not just roads and infrastructure, but people, communities, and a better future.
He has served on the Iron County Planning and Zoning Commission and the Cedar City Board of Adjustments. In every role, Phil is known for listening, leading with common sense, and focusing on solutions that benefit the whole community.
Now, he’s running for mayor because he cares about Cedar City’s future. His priorities include addressing water issues, improving traffic flow, creating a business-friendly environment that brings jobs and shopping, and ensuring that families—like his own—can continue to live and thrive here for generations.
